Ant Prevention Tips

Ants are one of, if not the most difficult pest to control. Their biology and subterranean existence equips them superbly well for survival.

Depending on the species there are likely to be less than 5% of the colony above ground at any time, and it is for this reason that commonly used repellent pesticides are only temporarily effective. Most of the colony will remain safely underground and relocate or just resurface a few weeks after the treatment. Therefore with any ant treatment while it may improve your ant issues you won’t always be able to eradicate them completely.

As with any pest treatment though there are a few things homeowners can do around the property to help increase the success rate and keep those pesky pests away for longer. When it comes to ants here are our top recommendations:

•    Keeping surface clean and tidy
Ensuring food preparation surfaces are cleaned down after use and any leftover food items are stored away or disposed of. Pay particular attention to kitchen food preparation benches and floors and any other areas that may become contaminated with crumbs etc.

•    Clean up uneaten pet food and food particles in and outside the home
Making sure pet food and food particles are cleared up each day. Also if you have dogs check and make sure they are not burying any food and / or bones you are giving them as this will attract ants to your home.

•    Eradicating sap sucking insects from garden plants
By eradicating sap sucking insects from your garden plants will deny ants an attractive source of food.
