Are termites hiding in your shed?

12 Jun. 2018

Locating wood in the natural environment can be difficult and dangerous and often all we find is gnarly old tree branches and logs that are tough and dry. No moisture, no fungus and no taste.   Bah!....Humbug! You can find yourself a week older and not a minute richer.

Houses provide us with easy pickings; lots of soft wood to eat and lots of moisture to keep us hydrated. Apart from pallets and wine barrels, sheds are a favourite place to invade. We love a chaotic muddle of clutter that we can hide in and behind and sheds are best for that. They have all kinds of wooden things stored in them; broom and rake handles, shelving, cupboards, work benches; all manner of tasty things. Lots of sheds have slab floors too; that makes it easy for us to get in through the gaps.1 mm is all we need so even cracks in concrete can be enough for us to squeeze through. Once we’re inside, “Voila” we can remain undisturbed for months; plenty of time for us to enjoy an all you can eat buffet.
