Common ways for termites to enter your home

20 Nov. 2018

Us termites love concrete; versatile, durable and solid as a rock, except when it isn’t. The thing about concrete is, when it’s poured it’s wet and when it dries it shrinks. It’s very fortunate for us termites that it does that because shrinking concrete leaves cracks and gaps that can provide nice entry points into houses. Cracks can form anywhere in slabs and gaps can be created  around plumbing pipes and where a new concrete slab is poured up against an existing concrete slab; like a garage. Those cracks and gaps are nearly always hidden under cabinets or floor coverings and that’s just the way we like it.

Once we get inside a house it’s a free for all; timber floors, cupboards, skirting boards, roof timbers and one of our favourite things; carpet edging or SmoothEdge. Once we get into carpet edging we can have a secret pre laid highway all around the house. What treasures it will lead to, who knows but you gotta dream boy. Where am I goin? I don't know, where am I headin? I ain't certain, all I know is I’m on my way.
